Haptic Bedside Lamp

I had surprisingly forgotten about this haptic lamp that actually sits in one of our bedrooms. We originally came across them in a smart B+B in Arboyne and initially were flumoxed by them.

The clue to its use is on the label that says <-On-Off->

Haptic nature revealed by the fact that the lamp can be easily operated with one hand in the dark.

  1. I was in the V&A Museum of Design (Dundee)’s Design in Motion exhibition when it visiting Edinburgh a couple of months ago. One of the things they were showing was the Coud9 software by Anarkik3D Ltd, which aims to make it easier and more affordable for makers to embrace 3D modelling tools. This used the bespoke ‘Novint Falcon’ haptic device as its interface device – great fun to play with!

    • I have come across Cloud9 and Anarkik3D (great name) but not the Novint Falcon (poor name). Intuitive 3D modelling with feeling is everyone’s dream. I have tried kinect and leap motion but recently came across a google product called Soli (bad name, possibly great product) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QNiZfSsPc0
Incidentally my sort of private definition of an haptic object is some you and use in the dark or with your eyes shut.

  2. Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have
any problems with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up
losing several weeks of hard work due to no backup.
Do you have any solutions to protect against hackers?
